Only a few family stories survived, along with fewer pictures. The voice is my mother's, although this book begins with my grandmother's dream and ends with mine. I have allowed myself to make such a personal book because the words and images are so typical of her immigrant generation. The structure of the book is a double pamphlet. I felt that different openings revealing random combinations of texts and images resembled the structure of memories more closely than a linear reading would .
